FXX Simpsons Promo Television Spots
In my spare time at FOX, I would draw The Simpsons in trippy, experimental ways, inspired by director David Silverman. One day, Matt Groening happened to see some of my sketches and said out loud, “These are great.” Later that day, I was told the team was considering animation promo shorts for FXX, and several of my ideas would be developed by the LA-based creative studio Laundry.
The challenge in branding a culturally iconic property like The Simpsons was keeping it visually recognizable while tonally surprising. As Laundry explained: “The more we leaned into The Simpsons for brand recognition, the more abstract and weird we could be within that space — and that made the work memorable.”
The result was a fever dream of yellow madness that was incredible to see come to life. The only downside was that I didn’t get to animate any of the promos myself.
