The Simpsons Ride Universal Studios

While at Fox, I had the incredible opportunity to partner with Gracie Films and an amazing team of artists to design both the interior and exterior of The Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios.

The attraction is a partial-motion, virtual reality experience where guests board a carnival-themed car that shifts and tilts to simulate movement through a fully animated world projected onto an 80-foot dome. Our goal was to make fans feel like they’d been dropped straight into a Simpsons episode gone wildly off the rails—and we pulled it off.

The Simpsons Ride went on to win the 2008 THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement – Attraction, the theme park industry’s equivalent of an Oscar. The award is presented by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), recognizing the world’s leading creators, designers, and producers of immersive experiences.

The Simpsons Ride Expansion

Together with Claudia Mielnik (VP, Fox Global Creative) and Mili Smythe (Creative Lead, Gracie Films), I was part of the Fox team behind the design of The Simpsons Ride expansion—covering the Arcade Games, Duff Beer Garden, Moe’s Tavern, and Krusty Burger at Universal Studios Orlando.

Working alongside Sean Millard and Tanner Goldbeck, we handled much of the creative heavy lifting: every character used for story telling, label, sign, and prop was design by our team. We even designed the food and drinks to fully immerse guests in the world of Springfield.

Our work was honored with the 2017 THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement – Themed Food & Beverage Experience.

Presented by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), the award recognizes the world’s leading creators, developers, and designers of immersive and compelling experiences.
